See how aggregate weighing, cement feeding, water control and mixing improve paver and block quality with a concrete batching plant.

A concrete batching plant is the quality-control center of a paver or block factory. The press can only compact the material it receives; if cement, aggregates or water change from batch to batch, product weight, color, strength and surface finish will also change.

For dry-cast pavers and blocks, the batching system must prepare a low-slump mix consistently and deliver it to the machine at the correct rate. The plant layout should connect aggregate storage, weighing, cement feeding, mixing and machine supply as one controlled sequence.

Main batching components

A practical paver-block batching system can include multiple aggregate bins, a weighing conveyor or weigh hopper, load cells, cement silo, screw conveyor, cement weighing tank, water dosing, mixer, discharge conveyor and control panel. The exact arrangement depends on capacity, site space and desired automation.

The KM batching plant range can be configured around the block machine and mixer. A compact plant may use three aggregate bins so different sand and stone fractions remain separated before weighing.

Aggregate weighing

Different aggregate sizes perform different roles in a dense concrete mix. Fine material fills voids, while coarser particles provide structure and reduce excessive cement demand. When loader operators estimate quantities by bucket alone, batch variation can be significant.

Load-cell weighing lets the operator create a repeatable recipe. The system should allow calibration checks, zero correction and separate target weights for each bin. Bin gates and belt speed must be controlled so the final weight does not repeatedly overshoot.

Cement and water control

A cement silo protects bulk cement and feeds it through a screw conveyor. For accurate production, cement should be weighed before entering the mixer instead of being judged by screw-running time alone. Water dosing should consider aggregate moisture, especially after rain or during humid weather.

Even a small change in water can affect green strength and demolding. The mix may look similar to the eye but behave differently under vibration. Establish a moisture-check routine and keep batch records.

Mixer selection

The mixer must produce a uniform batch within the available cycle time. Pan, single-shaft and twin-shaft mixers have different mixing actions and maintenance requirements. Select the type and batch size according to the block machine’s concrete demand, not only the mixer’s nominal capacity.

The KM mixer range includes configurable solutions for concrete-product plants. Check blade arrangement, wear liners, discharge opening, gearbox, motor, cleaning access and spare-part availability.

Control panel and automation

A batching panel can display target and actual weights, control gates and belts, and coordinate discharge. Auto and manual modes are both useful: automatic for repeatable production, manual for setup, cleaning and maintenance.

Safety design should include emergency stopping, overload protection, proper earthing, guarded moving parts and interlocks where required. Pneumatic systems need clean compressed air, a filter-regulator-lubricator arrangement where specified, and routine checks for leakage.

Business benefit

Controlled batching reduces dependence on operator memory and makes troubleshooting easier. When a product test changes, the manufacturer can review recorded material quantities instead of guessing. It also supports more reliable costing because cement and pigment consumption can be measured.

A batching plant should be sized after confirming the machine cycle, mixer batch, daily working hours and product mix. Oversizing creates unnecessary capital cost; undersizing causes the main machine to wait for concrete.
