Belt Conveyor Systems for Paver Blocks and Concrete Materials

Belt conveyors connect the stages of a paver, block or batching plant. They can transfer aggregates to a mixer, concrete to a machine hopper, production pallets through the line or finished products toward loading. A conveyor should be designed for one clear duty because raw aggregate, wet concrete and finished blocks create different loads.

Length and belt width are only the starting dimensions. The designer also needs capacity, material density, lump size, incline, loading point, discharge point, duty hours and environmental conditions.

Structure and belt selection

The conveyor frame must remain straight under load. Cross-bracing, supports and legs should prevent vibration and belt misalignment. Belt construction should suit abrasion, moisture and product contact. A two-ply rubber belt may be appropriate for certain loading or material-handling duties, but cover thickness and grade must match the application.

For a truck-loading conveyor used with pavers or blocks, a reference concept may use a total length around 28 feet, with approximately 13 feet reaching forward and a 15-foot external slope. Final dimensions depend on the truck bed, safe working height and product weight.

Drive and speed

Select the gear motor for belt load, incline and starting condition. Starting a loaded inclined conveyor requires more torque than running an empty horizontal conveyor. Belt speed should protect the material; very high speed can cause aggregate segregation or damage green products.

Confirm motor power, gearbox ratio, drive pulley diameter, take-up travel, backstop requirement and starting method. Guards are required around pulleys, chains, couplings and nip points.

Loading and discharge

Material should land near the center of the belt and move in the same direction where possible. Poorly positioned chutes cause spillage and tracking problems. Skirt rubber can contain loose material, but it must not clamp the belt so tightly that friction rises.

At discharge, allow the material to clear the head pulley without falling onto the return belt. Wet concrete chutes require smooth surfaces and cleaning access.

Height adjustment and mobility

A mobile loading conveyor may use four wheels and an adjustable-height mechanism. The support must remain stable at every position. Wheels need locks or chocks, and adjustment points should not expose workers to crushing hazards.

Do not move a raised or loaded conveyor unless the manufacturer has designed it for that operation. Establish a level operating surface and keep workers away from unsupported sections.

Safety

Install emergency-stop pull cords or push buttons according to conveyor length and risk assessment. Guards should prevent access to rotating parts without making cleaning impossible. Provide safe walkways where routine inspection is required.

Workers must not ride the belt or reach under a running conveyor. Isolate and lock out the motor before clearing a jam or adjusting tracking.

Maintenance

Daily checks include belt tracking, tension, splice condition, roller rotation, bearing noise, guards, emergency stops and material buildup. Replace seized rollers before they damage the belt. Keep concrete from hardening on pulleys.

KM MUGHAL 3 STAR can manufacture conveyors as part of a complete paver, block or batching plant. A coordinated layout ensures conveyor lengths and heights match mixers, hoppers and the main machine.
