Roller and Chain Conveyors for Pallets, Blocks and Paver Plants
Roller and chain conveyors move pallets and products between production stages without requiring workers to lift every load. In a paver or block plant, this can reduce fatigue, improve line organization and protect green products from sudden shocks.
The correct conveyor depends on the load. A wooden pallet
carrying fresh pavers needs full support and smooth transfer, while a finished
block can tolerate a different roller spacing. Always design from the largest
and heaviest load.
Manual
roller conveyors
A gravity or manual roller conveyor uses freely rotating
rollers. Workers push the load, or a slight controlled slope provides movement.
It is simple and economical for short transfer zones.
Roller spacing must prevent the pallet from tipping between
rollers. As a general design principle, the load should be supported by several
rollers at all times. Roller diameter, wall thickness, shaft and bearing
selection depend on pallet weight and impact.
Powered
chain conveyors
A chain conveyor can pull pallets through a defined path. It
suits machine infeed, outfeed or stocker connections where synchronized
movement is needed. Chains, sprockets and guides require correct alignment and
guarding.
A reference KM-15 DT support line may use a 16-foot chain
conveyor with a 2 hp drive, but final length and motor power depend on load,
speed and arrangement. The conveyor should be included in the connected-load
schedule.
Transfer
between conveyors
Many problems occur at the junction between two conveyors.
Height differences, gaps and speed mismatch can strike the pallet or shift
green products. Transfer plates, close roller spacing and controlled starts
help maintain stability.
During design, show the pallet footprint and travel
direction on the layout. Confirm whether the pallet must turn, lift or change
direction. A simple straight flow is usually more reliable than unnecessary
transfers.
Stocker
integration
A pallet stocker system can receive production
pallets and organize them for curing. The conveyor must position each pallet
accurately so sensors and lifting mechanisms work correctly. Bent pallets or
concrete buildup can cause misalignment.
Coordinate sensor positions, stop gates, drive speed and
emergency controls. The line should allow safe manual recovery if a pallet
stops between stations.
Safety
and ergonomics
Guard chain and sprocket drives. Cover nip points where
rollers or chains can trap fingers. Provide emergency stops and clearly mark
the intended operator positions. Avoid requiring workers to step over
conveyors.
Manual push forces should remain reasonable. If operators
struggle to move a loaded pallet, inspect bearing condition, level, roller
spacing and load weight rather than accepting excessive physical effort.
Maintenance
Keep rollers free, lubricate chains according to the
manufacturer’s schedule and maintain correct tension. Inspect frames for
loosening, impact and misalignment. Remove wet concrete before it hardens
around rollers or guides.
